I already have a favorite mascara which happens to be Better Than Sex from Too Faced. However, it’s not waterproof so I’m still on a mission to find the absolute best mascara. I decided to try Tarte Cosmetics’ lights, camera, splashes.

Lights Camera Splashes

Lights, camera, lashes is a 4-in-1 mascara that’s for lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning. Apparently it’s also dermatologist and clinically proven to increase the appearance of lash volume.

Let’s take a look at the packaging. The box and mascara are both a textured purple with gold. I do like the cute little anchors on them. The tube is different from other mascaras though. It’s like a normal mascara tube that has a scaly fabric sewn around it which feels a little awkward.

Tarte Mascara brush

The lights, camera, splashes  brush doesn’t have any special shape to it, but it does have a lot of little bristles. I find that a lot of product ends up on it (too much) and I have to wipe the brush off into the tube before I can attempt to apply the mascara to my lashes. Additionally, the little bristles don’t separate my lashes as much as I would expect them to.

So, does this 4-in-1 mascara stand up to its claims? Waterproof…indeed! This doesn’t give me panda eyes and takes a good cleaner to  wash it off at night. Lengthening…yes! It makes my lashes longer, especially my lower lashes.

It this Tarte mascara conditioning? Ehh, it’s not dry, but I’m not sure I would ever really be able to tell if it is conditioning my eyelashes. Same goes for the curling aspect. I always use an eyelash curler and I’m not sure this product would do much curling if I didn’t use one. My main issue with this mascara is the volumizing claim. If I’m not careful and don’t apply this the proper way, I end up with a total of 6 fat lashes. That’s certainly not the look I go for especially after forking over $20 for mascara.

Overall Thoughts: Lights, camera, splashes has received great reviews on the Tarte Cosmetics website. While I agree that it is waterproof, lengthening, and doesn’t flake, it’s not the best mascara for me. I will use this tube up and then continue my search for the perfect mascara.
