December 2011 Birchbox

December 2011 Birchbox

It's the last Birchbox of 2011 and my 8th box. I had high hopes for it, so did it meet my expectations or fall flat? I will also talk about NEW monthly beauty sample programs that you may be interested in trying.

The December Birchbox is my 8th box. I’m glad I subscribed to Birchbox because they have introduced me to some products I really love. However, I have been sick of perfume samples, useless extras, and food/candy samples. I know many other people are as well and have been canceling.

I think I will also be canceling since I have now subscribed to MyGlam‘s glam bag, which is $10 a month to receive a makeup bag of samples. It’s basically the same as Birchbox, but they appear to only give cosmetics samples, not things like perfume, candy, toothpaste, and fashion tape. In January, a similar program will also be launching. It’s called Beauty Army and you will actually choose the samples you want. This takes away the surprise element which you may like or not like and will cost $12. The products will be cosmetics, skincare, nail, hair, and fragrance samples so if you only want makeup, you’ll probably want to check out MyGlam. (MyGlam and Beauty Army are USA only, I believe.)

Anyways, here’s what I received this month. The outside packaging was cute this month with snowflakes.

The inside packaging was also a little different this month. I like the snowflakes, white, and shimmer! The theme was “Frolic and Fancy.”

The first item in my box was Atelier Cologne in Ambre Nue. It’s not that great and was the reason why the boxes shipped later than the 10th. The perfume has not debuted yet, and I guess BB received the samples late. I didn’t mind my box being late, because Birchbox apologized and gave everyone 100 points, which I will definitely be using to get $10 off a full size product! However, I’m seriously so sick of perfume samples and I received another Atelier Cologne in my August box.

Benefit Cosmetics is one of my favorite companies. I use their Boi-ing concealer every single day. So, receiving Benefit The POREfessional in this box is probably the highlight. However, I already have a sample of this, so it’s not anything new to me. The sample I have now, was a free gift with purchase from Ulta and I know you can purchase Benefit sample sets from Sephora for a low price. I do like this product, and will use it though.

A couple week ago on BB’s Facebook they posted a preview of the next item. I was actually excited for it until I saw the size of it. The Jouer Lipgloss in Birchbox Pink is so small! I was hoping since it’s a color made for BB, they’d maybe give us a full-size, but no. I’m also a little disappointed because I received a small Jouer lipgloss sample in my September box.

This next item another repeat item. In my July box, I received a Nuxe Multi-Use Dry Oil. This month I received Nuxe Multi-Usage Dry Oil Shimmer, same exact product just with shimmer. I never used the first one because I was hesitant to put oil in my hair or on my skin, I don’t need extra oil. However, I decided to try the shimmer one on my hand and kind of liked it. It’ didn’t leave my hand looking or feeling oily, it just left a nice shimmery glow.

The extras in this month’s box are disappointing. They were Prep ShowStoppers, double-sided fashion tape, and Recharge Eboost, a energy boosting powder you add to water.
