Do you have any shirt surgery nightmare or success stories?

In the past week, I have ended up with 4 shirts that just aren’t flattering. I decided something had to be done. Everyone has these types of shirts from concerts, conventions, and local businesses. You can even do this to your boyfriend’s or husband’s shirts, if you wear ones that he no longer does. I usually wear tees like this to bed, but now I can actually get more wear out of them!

There are various ways to make big, unflattering shirts more fitted and fashionable. This way involves NO sewing and you don’t have to be very crafty. It only took me about 5 to 10 minutes to convert each of the following shirts.

Shirt Surgery- One Shoulder

For this one, I used my Snip Stamp shirt.

HOW TO….

1. Wash and dry shirt.

If it’s a new shirt it could shrink. So wash and dry before you cut it. You can make a shirt smaller, not bigger.

2. Get scissors and a ruler.

I used sharp sewing scissors that my mom had. A ruler helps make sure your hem and sleeves are even, unless you want an asymmetrical shirt.

3. Cut the neck line, bottom hem, and sleeves to the desired length or shape.

The way you cut the neck line will vary. For the one shoulder shirt I cut one side more than the other. You can also cut  triangles or shapes into the sleeve if you want.

4. Pull the fabric and it will roll/curl to hide the rough edges.

You don’t have to pull hard and rip the shirt. Just a gentle but firm tug on the areas that you cut and the material curls.

5. Wear your improved shirt!

Unflattering shirts are now cute and you’ve increased your stylish wardrobe.
