I was subscribed to Birchbox for most of 2011 and into 2012, then I decided it wasn’t worth the $10 a month and cancelled. Lately, I’ve been hearing good things about it again and thought maybe it had improved. Was re-subscribing a mistake?

The theme this month was “Best Year Ever,” maximizing your individual happiness.

Here’s what was inside…

Harvey Prince- Skinny Chic perfume sample. I’m really into perfume lately, and I do not like this one. It’s a “zesty blend of apple, mint, and lotus blossom.” Yuck, not a good combo. I even had my boyfriend smell it and he did not like it either. For information on delicious-smelling perfumes, check out my “Last Minute Gift” posts.

Lashem- Measurable Difference Lash Gel Serum. Made with goji berry extracts and fortifying boitin this serum is supposed to give longer, thicker eye lashes. This sample is really small and the full-size product costs $69.99, but I guess I can try it out. However, I was not excited about this sample.

Number 4- Clarifying Shampoo. This is a perfect example of Birchbox not paying attention to my beauty profile. What’s the point of having me take that quiz and then sending me samples I won’t use? I dye my hair red which bleeds and fades easily. A shampoo for color-treated hair would have made sense.

The Balm- Hot Mama is a two-in-one blush and highlighter. It’s a shimmery golden color. This is pretty and it’s the one sample I will use from this box.

Fresh- Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream. According to the card in my box, I should have received this beauty extra.  Well, I didn’t, so I don’t have a photo.

Beauty Extra: Poster.  A double-sided poster with 25 ideas for maximizing your individual happiness to have the best year ever.

Overall Thoughts: THUMBS DOWN, not worth my $10. I’ll hang in there for next month, but with how things are looking I will be cancelling my subscription AGAIN.
