This post will mostly be photos of me opening the May Birchbox. This was my FIRST Birchbox and it kind of came as a surprise because it was a month early.

I first heard about Birchbox a couple weeks ago and was thrilled. If you’ve never heard of it, prepare to be amazed. You pay $10 a month and receive 4-6 deluxe health & beauty samples. Sometimes you even receive a full sized item! I signed up for my first box on May 2nd, the website said the first box I would receive would be the June one. However, on May 11th I received an e-mail that my May Birchbox was being shipped. I was excited to find out that I didn’t have to wait another month and I received the box the next day on May 12th. I love fast shipping!

I also love samples and this is a way for me to get new makeup each month for only $10. I can try things out, and see if I like them without having to pay tons of money for full sized items, unless I choose to. With Birchbox, if you love samples you receive, you can buy the full sized items on the Birchbox website and earns points that you can use towards future purchases.

Okay, you just want to see what I got, so here you go…

This is the box I received in my mailbox.

The pink box opens up to reveal another box.

I opened it and found a card that gives a little welcome and explains the “theme” of the month. The back of this card also says what each sample is and how much the full size item costs.

Some of the samples were wrapped in pink tissue paper, with a ribbon, and a business card.

The three items that were in the tissue paper.

All the samples, out of their packaging.

If you look at the size of this Stila eyeshadow and the information about the full sized product, you may notice that this is full sized and worth $18!!

Everything I received in my May Birchbox.

The items were Stila eyeshadow, Bulgari Mon Jasmin Noir, Archipelago pomegranate soap, Ahava mineral hand cream, and a Tiny Prints card. I was looking forward to getting cosmetics samples and this month’s box only really had one makeup sample. So, was I disappointed? NO! This month was about items that can fit into your daily routine and it’s understandable that some people would get sick of only makeup each month.

The eyeshadow alone is worth $18 and I only paid $10 for everything. The greeting card from Tiny Prints is cute and even came with a card that gives me an online coupon code for one free greeting card and a code for 50% off a purchase. I tried the hand cream, it is nice. The Stila eyeshadow is smooth and has good pigmentation. I didn’t care for the perfume sample, but I’m more of a body spray girl,  and I haven’t tried the soap yet.

Is Birchbox worth it? Definitely. My first box more than paid for itself with a full sized item. If you purchase things from Sephora you have to spend at least $100 just to earn one free deluxe sample. Plus, you can cancel Birchbox at anytime. I love samples and normally I don’t like surprises, but I think I’m going to like having a little beauty surprise in my mailbox each month.

Thanks for leaving a comment! I like hearing from people. :) From what I can tell they don’t do those awful card samples (I hate those!) I’ll do another post when I get my June box.

Thanks for including pics! I was thinking about signing up for Birchbox but I wasn’t sure if it would be worth it or not… obviously it totally is!! I thought they would just send out some lame sample cards that only had enough eye shadow for one lids use so I’m impressed to see such generous samples. I’ll definitely be signing up with them soon! :)
